Another source of occupational information, with estimates of the number of people in each occupation, 1988-2012, is the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment Survey OES databases. http://www.bls.gov/oes/tables.htm . There is a difference between the Census Bureau tabulations and the Occupational Employment Survey tabulations. I have not read the “fine print” narrative for each agency’s website that explains the methods used and limitations of the data. I hope that this additional information will help out.
