Interested in creating a Makerspace in your library? This program will discuss what a Makerspace is, how libraries of all types create and share Makerspaces with library customers and the community and feedback from users. Libraries are a much needed and often used third space, which are ideal for community Makerspaces to collaborate and encourage creativity among all users. There will be gadgets, hands-on demos and group discussion on the nuts & bolts necessary for Makerspace in the library as well as what products should be found in successful Makerspaces. Gordon Wyant will share how his library successfully wrote a grant for a 3D printer, and Michael Sauers will demo a range of new gadgets including a Raspberry Pi and LibraryBox.

The subject of the ad–Tile–is about to sweep the nation when it finally will be released to users who pre-ordered this very helpful device last winter. Currently, preordered Titles total more than $2 million.

Tile is a little device (image right) that can go anywhere or attach to any of your belongings in order to keep track of them.

The digital adoption rate in non-English language markets where Amazon Kindle operates is matching that in the English-speaking world. This is according to Russ Grandinetti, vice-president for Kindle Content at Amazon, speaking to delegates at Publishers Launch held yesterday (Monday 7th October) on the eve of Frankfurt Book Fair.

Alexander McCall Smith is to write a modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma for HarperCollins. The author is the latest recruit to the publisher’s “Austen Project”, which will see Joanna Trollope tackle Sense and Sensibility, Val McDermid modernise Northanger Abbey, and Curtis Sittenfeld rework Pride and Prejudice.
