HarperColllins and ebook distributor LibreDigital, have signed up to use a new technology called Guardian Watermarking for Publishing from Digimarc, a new anti-piracy technology that embeds an invisible watermark into ebooks at the time of transaction. The service is cloud-based and offers an easy-to-integrate API for most ebook formats, including EPUB, PDF and MOBI.

The Internet giant took a proactive step in the battle against online piracy Tuesday by releasing a 26-page report titled “How Google Fights Piracy.” Google announced this release through a post on its public policy blog, which summarized “highlights” of the report.

The rate of copyright infringement reports Google received in 2013 is on track to quadruple the number of reports received in 2012.
In the first seven months of 2013, publishers have submitted 110.2 million requests to remove copyright-infringing content, compared with 55.2 million requests in all of 2012.
